Pass the test

The Pass Aao Na girl couldn't have asked for a better 2009. Last year, her powerful yet melodic voice reached out to people across the world.

CS caught up with an excited Sona Mohapatra at a recent event to know more about the kind of music she loves:

Desi girl

I'm essentially a very desi person. I'm heavily into folk music from Gujrat and Rajasthan.

I think we have some very talented musicians in the smaller parts of India who're still unheard. I love listening to the regional stuff and also draw inspiration from it.

My songs have that earthy touch to them and so does my voice. I'm usually spotted wearing a bindi that's how desi I am!

Value ad

When I released Pass Aao Na, I never expected it to become such a rage.

I am so glad that it became a part ofu00a0 a television commercial, because that way it reached out to a lot more people across the world than it ordinarily would have.

I never thought that I would end up singing it in 30 different languages.

New beginnings

We're living in a world of innovation and thanks to technology, we musicians have a host of opportunities staring at us.

The web and television have given us an outlet to promote our music in diverse ways and be heard by people across the globe.

I'm just looking for newer ways to promote my songs and I'm already excited about what the coming year will have in store for me.
