Nargis Fakhri's role inspired by Anita Pratap?

With a slew of Bollywood actresses playing journalists in recent and upcoming films, now it’s Nargis Fakhri’s turn. Insiders say the actress’ role in Shoojit Sircar’s upcoming film co-starring John Abraham is based on real-life Indian scribe Anita Pratap. Incidentally, Anita was the first journalist to interview the slain LTTE chief Prabhakaran.

A source says, “John has been showing his film to his close friends in the industry and after the first trial itself, everyone has been talking about her character being inspired from Anita.” Perhaps the similarity struck home as the film shows Nargis interviewing Anna (Ajay Ratnam), a fictional character portrayed as the head of the rebel terrorist group while covering the political unrest in Sri Lanka.

Media frenzy
Madhubala played a reporter in the 1960 film Kala Bazaar. In recent times, Konkana Sen Sharma essayed a celeb journo in Page 3 while Preity Zinta did hardcore reporting in Lakshya. While Kangna Ranaut was a suave journalist in Knock Out, Rani Mukerji performed convincingly as a bad-mouthed TV journalist in No One Killed Jessica.

Kareena Kapoor will be seen essaying an international journalist in Prakash Jha's upcoming film. Amrita Rao is portraying a journo in Anil Sharma's next. Raveena Tandon will play a journalist-columnist who forms an intense relationship with a younger lad in Sudipto Chattopadhyaya’s forthcoming project. Neha Dhupia essays the role of a scribe in Rensil D’Silva’s upcoming film.
