After all the chaos regarding Mumbai University's (MU) online assessment process last year, which affected lakhs of students, the varsity claims that this time they have already completed 75 per cent of the assessment work and all the results would be declared within 45 days of completion of each examination. According to the varsity, of the total 1,407,035 answer-sheets this year, 1,049,303 have already been evaluated and results of 129 examinations of the total 402 are out.

The failure of MU's on-screen-marking (OSM) system last year had invited a lot of criticism from all quarters. Even the university vice-chancellor was sacked following the chaos over the issue. Due to the faulty process, some students are still awaiting their evaluation results. However, even as the panic around results continues this year, the varsity is hopeful that with a total of 12,618 professors on assessment duty, the process would be smooth this time.
Dr Arjun Ghatule, director of Examinations and Evaluations at MU, said, "Last year, even though professors were available for the assessment process, the answer sheets were not scanned because of some technical delays. This year the answer sheets have already been scanned and they are ready for assessment. There won't be any delay this time and all results will be declared within 45 days of completion of each examination. But it's important to understand how these 45 days are counted. For each examination, MU conducts multiple patterns. For example, in case of Bachelor of Arts, five patterns are conducted. So the 45 days will be counted from the date of completion of the last pattern." "On an average, 200 professors report to assessment duty every day," said Ghatule. He further mentioned that all re-evaluation results pending from the last year would be declared by this weekend.
