Pipeline burst near Five Gardens
Water accumulated on the busy Ambedkar Road near Five Gardens, inconveniencing commuters. Civic officials are hoping supply will be possible on Thursday.
The 1200 mm Tansa pipeline supplies water to the F/South and F/North wards.
Around 6 am on Wednesday, water started seeping out onto the road. The water supply had already started in this area, that was stopped in a while. But these areas also get water from the Bhandarwada reservoir, which was maintained. Civic officials are now on site, and supply has been shut.
"The pipeline is 12-13 feet underground. Currently, excavation work is going on. Only after we reach the spot will we be able to figure out how bad the damage is. About 20-30 feet long part of the pipeline will have to be replaced. That part is already ready. Our workers will work all night today to make sure supply is restored tomorrow," informed a senior civic official.
Meanwhile, traffic from BA Road towards South Mumbai has to take the flyover.
