Mumbaikars need to brace for heavy rain showers from Thursday, which will likely continue till Sunday, according to sources at the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The presence of a stationary low pressure area, will probably lead to heavy rain for Gujarat and Konkan coasts.
IMD officials have discovered that a lot of moisture will be pulled from the sea along the Gujarat and north Konkan coastline, leading to extreme rainfall in Mumbai and surrounding areas.
According to Hindustan Times, Marathwada and south Konkan regions, including Mumbai, will have moderate to heavy rainfall, from July 13 and 14 till July 16, say weather officials.
Since the last 10 days, Mumbai has been undergoing a dry spell, which weather experts attribute to lack of weather systems that were active during June. This they say resulted in the reduction in the amount of rainfall.
Warnings regarding the upcoming weather change have been issued to the Maharashtra and Gujarat governments on Wednesday. Members of the fishing community have also been warned against entering the sea for the next five days owing to erratic rainy weather conditions.
