On April 13, Bhavsar and his friend, Rupesh Pawani, a tour operator, decided to meet up at R Mall in Mulund (West). The duo reached there around 5.30 pm, parked the vehicle outside and went shopping. The media professional had left his laptop and passport in the car.
Speaking to mid-day, Pawani, the victim’s friend, said, “We had parked my Maruti Swift in front of the mall. When we returned after shopping, I found that my car’s windows had been broken and my friend’s laptop and passport were missing. We then registered a case with Mulund police station.” The robbery occurred during the short span of 15-20 minutes when the duo was inside.
Bhavsar was to return to China on the very same day of the theft and has been stuck in India since then. “I have been stuck in Mumbai for the last seven days. I am taking help from the passport office and the Mulund police. I will give R10,000 to whoever returns my passport. I am ready to pay even the thief if he returns my document. Keep the laptop if you want, but please give my passport,” he said.
He further added that he has already applied for a duplicate passport but it would take some time to arrive. Bhavsar was also forced to cancel his flight. A police officer from Mulund police station said, “We have registered the case under Sections 379 (theft) and 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees). We are trying to nab the accused and recover the passport.”
