In an interesting incident, a teenager saved his friend from being run over by a train at Kurla station when both of them were heading for home in Dombivli on Wednesday.
As the train chugged into platform number 1A, the duo, Virendra Pokle (16) and Sarvesh Dhere (16), started walking in the opposite direction. The moment they tried to board the train, Pokle lost balance and fell in the gap between the train and the platform. Immediately, Dhere pulled him out and rushed him to Sion Hospital where he is undergoing treatment.

Though Pokle sustained injuries but he is reportedly out of danger.
Lucky escape
Both Pokle and Dhere are first year computer engineering students at Vidyalankar Institute in Wadala. The incident happened around 1.44 pm when they were returning home after attending their classes.
While trying to board the train, Pokle fell in the gap and sustained injuries. His friend Dhere pulled him out with the help of others and rushed him to hospital
Pokle’s father Shailesh told mid-day, “I want to thank Sarvesh for saving my son and the Railway Protection Force for helping him take Virendra to Sion Hospital. My son is out of danger.”

Cop says
An RPF inspector from Kurla said, “The incident is a result of the mindless attitude of youngsters. If we change our attitude and maintain some discipline then such accidents can be avoided.” He added, “The RPF is conducting awareness campaigns, community policing and counseling under provision of the Railway Act to avoid such accidents.”
