A 26-year-old woman from Mumbai has alleged that a friend and his family held her at their house in Uttar Pradesh and raped her repeatedly. The woman works as a lawyer in the Bombay High Court and had gone to Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh to attend the accused's sister's wedding.


The woman lodged a complained against the accused, based on which he was arrested on Monday. The accused has been identified as 26-year-old Mohammad Faisal, who works at a hair salon in Mumbai. It was when the victim visited Faisal's house on February 12 that his family kept her captive there. A report in the Indian Express quotes Superintendent of Police Prabhakar Chaudhary as having stated, "The family held her captive in a room where she was repeatedly raped by Faisal. She said the family members beat her up."

Chaudhary is reported to have added,"In our primary investigation, we have found out that the woman, a law practitioner in Mumbai, was in a relationship with Faisal for the last two years. Faisal works at a salon there (in Mumbai). After she came here on her own from Mumbai on February 12, she stayed with the family, which happens to be lower-middle-class.”

The victim underwent a medical examination on Monday as is being lodged at a government guest house under police security. Faisal denied all the allegations made by the victim stating that she had voluntarily gone to his house. Meanwhile, Mohammad Faisal has been booked under Sections 376, 377, 344, 323, 504 and 506 of the Indian Penal code.
