Accident happened at Bandra reclamation; 'driver not drunk'

Speaking to mid-day, traffic officer Ramchandra Bhujbal said, "Around 12 am, we received a call from the traffic control room about a major accident near the Reclamation, close to the toll plaza. We rushed to the spot and helped the four injured people out of the Toyota Corolla. One of the injured suffered grave injuries. We immediately rushed them to Lilavati hospital."

Police sources are yet to ascertain if the group that met with an accident were friends or family members, but said that there were two women and three men inside the car. Rahul Kamble, security in-charge at a nearby construction site, said, "We saw the car zooming across the road. It may have been driving at 100 km per hour. The driver seemed to have lost control after crossing the toll naka, as he crashed through the divider and dashed an electric pole, while fell on impact."

According to sources, the spot where the incident took place is prone to car accidents. Jay Kumar, security chief at a nearby company, said, "The car overturned after dashing the electric pole and it rolled thrice before grinding to a halt." Police sources said that the driver escaped unhurt as the airbag inflated following the impact with the electric pole. A police source said, "As per primary investigations, it doesn't seem like the driver was under the influence of alcohol. We are trying to ascertain the identities of the injured."
