Two MLAs who were travelling to attend the monsoon Assembly session in Mumbai were robbed of cash and valuable on separate trains. 


Rahul Bondre, who is a Congress MLA from Chikhli (Buldhana) was travelling on the Vidarbha express and Shiv Sena MLA, Mehkar Sanjay Raimulkar who was on Devagiri Express filed complaints to the government railway police.

As per Bondre's complaint, the incident took place early in the morning at 6:20 am on Monday. He had boarded Vidarbha express from Malkapur in Buldhana with his wife.

A man entered the AC coach and stole his wife's purse when the train halted on platform 5 at Kalyan station.

As per his complaint, the purse had a mobile phone worth Rs 26000, cash worth Rs 24000 and bank cards.

A Kalyan GRP officer said that the police were scanning CCTV footage for possible leads.

On the other hand, Raimulkar who had boarded a train from Jalna said that he was robbed of his cash and mobile phone while he was sleeping.

“I was travelling on the Devagiri Express. When I woke up, around u00e2u0082u00b913,000 in cash and my mobile phone were missing. My bag had also been cut with a blade but nothing had been stolen from it,” Raimulkar said to Hindustan Times.

Hemant Bawdhankar, senior police inspector of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) GRP said that the two MLAs approached the police station and alleged that cash and belongings were stolen from their respective trains between Kalyan and Thane.

Bawdhankar said, “We had registered two cases of thefts on board the Vidharbha and Devagiri Express trains. As the incidents took place between Kalyan and Thane railway stations, we have transferred the cases to the respective GRP teams.”

Bondre's complaint was registered with the Kalyan GRP and Raimulkar's complaint was registered with Thane GRP.

An investigation is underway.
