The MHB police arrested two brothers for slitting their 19-year-old sister’s throat yesterday. The accused were identified as Anil and Gaurav Rajbhar, who reside in the Navagaon area in Borivli West with three more brothers, sister Jyoti and their mother. They tried to kill their only sister, as they were unhappy with her romantic relationship.

The Rajbhar family operates a flower-selling business through a stall near LIC church. During enquiry, it was revealed that Jyoti was in a relationship and her brothers were not pleased with it. She had quarrelled with them multiple times over the issue after which she’d left from home and gone to live at a relative’s home in Malad three days ago.

Called her home
The police said that Anil had called her to their Borivli home on Wednesday. Later, on the pretext of dropping Jyoti to Malad, the brothers set off on a bike. When they reached a broken building near LIC church, Anil slashed her neck with a knife while Gaurav injured her with a blade.

Police sources said the incident occurred around 6.15 am. Her brothers Anil and Gaurav slit their sister Jyoti’s throat and left her to die in a pool of blood at an isolated spot near LIC Colony. After this, while Anil went to the MHB police station to surrender, younger brother Gaurav fled from the spot. A local who was passing through the area found Jyoti in a pool of blood and rushed her to the Sorana Hospital after informing cops.

Other brother held at hospital
After Gaurav found out that she has been admitted, he reached the hospital to see whether she had died. He was planning to kill her there if she were still alive. But his plans were foiled by the MHB police, who arrested him when he got there. A case has been registered against the brothers under Section 307 (Attempt to murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.

Jyoti was then shifted to the Shatabdi Hospital where she was operated upon and was then moved to the KEM Hospital, where her condition remains critical. “We have arrested both accused. They were produced before the Borivli court and have been remanded in police custody,” said senior police inspector Arun Satpute from MHB police station.
