Mumbai Crime: 22-year-old held for raping, blackmailing housewife

The accused raped the 48-year-old survivor many times after threatening to upload a video of the act on social media; he demanded Rs 2 lakh and her flat as well

Mumbai Crime: 22-year-old held for raping, blackmailing housewife

A 22-year-old driver has been arrested by the Mira Road police on Saturday, for raping a 48-year-old housewife and later blackmailing her. Police said that fed up with the increasing harassment from the accused, the woman revealed all to her son following which an FIR was registered with the Mira Road police station.


According to the police, the survivor and accused stay in the same residential society. The survivor has two sons, one is 27-years-old, another is 28-years-old. Her husband and elder son both stay abroad. She stays with her younger son who works in a BPO.

Police said in the month of August last year, the accused visited the survivor’s home when she was alone and gave her a spiked cold drink. She fell unconscious after drinking it, and taking advantage of this, the accused raped her. He also made a video clip of the act and later threatened to post the video on social media.

According to a police official, the accused raped the survivor several times in the past eight months, and later started demanding money from her. The survivor also approached the mother of the accused and informed her about the crime. His mother promised to speak to her son. But the accused started threatening the victim and demanded R2 lakh and told her to register her flat in his name. Troubled, the survivor told her son about the crime. They then lodged a complaint.

“We have registered the case under Sections 328 (Causing hurt by means of poison), 376 (rape) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of IPC. The accused was produced in court and remanded in four days police custody,” said Police Inspector Vasant Labade of Mira Road Police station.
