The Vakola police have arrested a 16-year-old boy while another (15) is absconding, for allegedly sexually assaulting their 15-year-old classmate inside the toilet of a Vakola school for a period of four months.

An FIR was filed last month at the Vakola police station after the victim revealed the incident to his parents. It is alleged that the perpetrators had forced sex with the victim for four months from June to September last year. It is still not clear why the victim opened up to his parents only in March this year.

In March, after the FIR was registered in Vakola, the cops had landed up at the school to arrest both the accused, but could not because of the ongoing examinations. One of the accused subsequently ran away to Uttar Pradesh. The police have arrested the other boy and are questioning him.

The police feel that the principal of the school, where the three minors were studying, should have taken the required steps. Efforts are on to bring back the accused boy who has run away to Uttar Pradesh. Police say that the victim appears to be in a depressed condition and requires psychiatric counselling.

Family members of the victim claim that when they approached the school principal, they were told that none of his students would commit such a despicable act. The Vakola police swung into action and filed the case as soon as the victim’s family approached them in March. Sources claim that many politicians had tried to get the accused minor released, but the police did not buckle under the pressure.

Both the accused youth have been booked under various sections of the IPC including 377 (unnatural offences) and relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The Vakola police have launched a manhunt to nab the absconding culprit.
