Mumbai: On a day that the Mumbai traffic police started a crackdown on traffic offenders, Maharashtra Transport Minister Diwakar Raote met with an accident in the city.

In the mishap, the minister who suffered minor injuries-- a neck sprain and injury to his left leg -- was immediately rushed to the state-run J J hospital along with his bodyguards and driver, who were also injured. His bodyguard was admitted in JJ Hospital for head injury.

Officers from N M Joshi police station, under whose jurisdiction the incident took place, confirmed the incident. They added that the incident took place due to the error of a person driving a Swift Dzire who lost control of his vehicle and rammed his car into the minister's.

Police officials have arrested the driver involved after taking him for a medical test at JJ Hospital. Doctors confirmed that Raote was treated on OPD basis and was discharged in half an hour.

Police said they may file a case of negligence against the driver of the tourist car after an inquiry into the incident. Also, they will record the statement of the minister and the persons who were travelling with him when the accident took place, police added.
