Mathura: Sankalp Anand, son of poet and film lyricist Santosh Anand, and his wife were killed when they allegedly jumped along with their seven-year-old daughter in front of a speeding train here today, police said. Sankalp (38) and his wife Naresh Nandini Anand (34), who were based in Delhi, died on the spot while their daughter suffered serious injuries and has been admitted to a hospital.

In a 10-page hand-written suicide note left behind in his car near the railway tracks, Sankalp, who was a lecturer at a government institute in Delhi, wrote that they were taking the extreme step due to financial problems, police said. According to police, Sankalp and his family had come to Mathura from Delhi this morning.

They then went to the railway tracks near Kosikalaan town here and threw themselves before an approaching train, but their daughter somehow got pushed back and escaped with severe injuries. Besides the suicide note, Sankalp's voter-ID and driver's license were found from the car. Sankalp's father Santosh reached Mathura after he was informed about the couple's death, officials said.

The officials said a probe was on with the police examining the authenticity of the suicide note.
