One of the biggest breakthroughs in treating infertility came in 1978 when the first test tube baby was born with the process of In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF).
The biggest drawback of lVF was encountered in patients with low sperm counts. This was overcome in 1992 with the introduction of the new technique called Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI). Bloom IVF group introduced ICSI in 1996 and started an advanced centre at the Lilavati Hospital, Bandra in 1998. Since then the group has made hundreds of childless couples happy by gifting them, a priceless baby.
The laboratory is the heart of the IVF program. Our lab at Lilavati Hospital is equipped with sophisticated state-of-the-art technology and manned by highly trained and skilled personnel. The unit offers the latest services with success rates equivalent to the west, at very affordable costs, but without compromising on quality. This objective has enabled our unit to be at the forefront in offering fertility services in India.
The lab environment is controlled with the help of an Air Handling Unit (AHU) which constantly filters and purifies the air by passing it through special filters thereby, even maintaining the lab temperature between 24-26 C. This device is run continuously 24 X 7 and all year round. This improvement in air quality has dramatically boosted our pregnancy rates.
Intra-cytoplasmic Morphologically selected Sperm Injection (IMSI) helps magnify the image of the sperm 7,200 times, thereby allowing the embryologist to pick up the best-looking healthier sperm.
This machine is an advanced version of ICSI, with a 16-times higher magnification capacity. IMSI improves the success rate among men with severe low sperm count, low sperm motility and abnormal sperms. However, long term studies are needed to establish its competence.
Assisted Laser Hatching is a technique in which with the help of laser energy the covering of the embryo (zona pellucida) is cut or just thinned prior to embryo transfer. This technique is very effective in older patients (>38 years), patients with recurrent IVF failures and in patients undergoing transfer with frozen embryos.
All our embryo transfers are done under ultra-sound guidance, this helps in placing the embryos optimally in the uterine cavity and the patients are sent home 20 minutes later.
Recently, we have introduced the metabolomics machine for the first time in Asia. Using this machine, we can analyse the metabolic activity of the embryo and hence select the best embryo for single embryo transfer thereby reducing the possibility of multiple pregnancies.
Additionally, our centre utilises the technique for Embryo freezing (Vitrification) which also gives us equivalent pregnancy rates as compared to the fresh embryo transfers (ie within the range of 40 to 50 per cent in women less than 35 years of age).
Despite all these advancements, there are a few patients who don't become pregnant and hence are counseled for the option of surrogacy or adoption. Surrogacy is for those women who can't carry their own pregnancy; therefore the embryos are transferred in the womb of another woman who will carry the pregnancy till term.
Bloom IVF group has units all over India including Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Vashi, New Delhi & Mohali.
Bloom IVF has specialized doctors who have been practicing infertility procedures since last 18 years and have treated more than 17,000 patients from all over India and the world enabling them to have babies and bringing joy to their lives. Their clinical pregnancy rates are consistently between 40-50 percent in women less than 35 years of age.
