A police officer close to the investigation said it looked like the work of an insider. The officer said the incident took place around five days ago.
The victim, Additional Sessions Judge V K Khanna was reportedly busy in a hearing when the thief struck.
"Raj Kumar, who is his peon, was the first to discover the incident. He told the police that Khanna had put the laptop on the table for getting its battery recharged. Raj Kumar was there for a few minutes and then he went to the restroom. But when he returned he found the laptop missing. He immediately informed other staffers and a search began. When the laptop couldn't be located, they decided to lodge an FIR of theft. We filed a case under section 379 in this respect," said the officer, who did not wish to be named.
The court complex is situated in sector 6 of Saket in south Delhi. V K Khanna, the victim, sits in room number 310J inside the court premises from where the laptop was stolen. Police said that it was around 11 am when the incident took place.
"CCTV cameras have been installed in the area but there wasn't one inside the room where the theft took place," said the officer.
