It was the most unusual scenario when Ankeet Chavan tied the knot with his longtime girlfriend Neha in 2013.

Their marriage ceremony was a low-key affair, conducted under police vigilance. Just a few days before they got married on June 2, Chavan was released from Tihar jail in New Delhi to complete his marriage proceedings. The post-marriage period is generally considered to be the best time in a couple's life.

Two years into their married life, Chavan's better half expects the grand phase to begin now after a Delhi court on Saturday cleared Chavan and his two Rajasthan Royals teammates from all charges levied by the Delhi police during the 2013 Indian Premier League spot fixing scandal.

Tough times
"What we have gone through in the last two years was extremely tough given the circumstances. Our (best time) will begin now. Everything (the ordeal) is now over. We will be back to normal," said an overwhelmed Neha after Saturday's outcome.

"We would like to thank the judiciary system and God for this day. We are at peace today," she added. The relief was evident on Neha's face as she gave a tight hug to her grandmother-in-law and her mother-in-law the moment she entered the house. She excused herself for some time, probably to get her emotions under control before speaking to reporters.

'Trust is important'
Neha showed exemplary commitment to her relationship when she decided to get married despite the circumstances not being ideal. What made her stay undeterred? "Trust is important. Love and trust play a big role in life and I am really happy today that I can join these two words together.

"We just had faith in God. We prayed everyday," she said. Did anybody ever question her for the decision to get married? "Luckily, for Ankeet, his family and friends trusted him. There was no one I met who questioned me. And I know him for the last 10 years," said Neha, an IT consultant.

'Want to see him play'
Recalling the emotional upheaval her husband went through over the last two years, Neha hoped he could get back to cricket as soon as possible. "We all want to see him playing again. If you take life out of someone, how would one feel? Once cricket comes back to his life, he will be back to normal," she concluded.
