Over 100 citizens, who had bought high-end apartments developed by HDIL, protest outside the housing body's office, as they still haven't received possession of their flats
Several owners of high-end residences constructed by the state-run Housing Development & Infrastructure Limited (HDIL) staged a protest outside HDIL’s office in Bandra yesterday after the housing body failed to hand over the possession of
their homes.
The protestors, who had all bought the apartments earlier, are refusing to pay the extra money that the builder is demanding because apparently all home owners have been given larger areas than what they paid for, in the form of flower beds and
balcony spaces.
The harassed homebuyers who gone to court against HDIL, have also written to the nation’s Economic Offence Wing against HDIL. The housing body was supposed to hand over possession to over 100 investors by December 2013 but instead of giving them possession it is now demanding the extra amount.
A senior Police Officer from Nirmal Nagar Police station, present at the spot said, “While they were protesting, one of the security guards at HDIL tried to push them out of the premises. That is when we intervened and tried to make the builder and the home buyers meet and resolve the matter.”
Aejaz Saiyed, one of the homebuyers who was a part of the protest said, “We created no law and order problems. It was only when we saw the chairman of HDIL walking in, that we started with our protest. There is still no solution with the builder demanding extra money.”
