Harassed Mumbai airport staffer gets job back, but accused still her boss

A day after mid-day’s report about a 32-year-old woman security officer registering a case against a senior security manager at Mumbai International Airport, the woman has been given back her job, and an inquiry has been initiated against the alleged accused.

However the woman has not received salary for one month, and the accused, Lalsingh Bhandari (38) is still working at the same place, with the police yet to arrest him. On Tuesday, mid-day published an article (‘Sexually harassed airport staffer lodges FIR, cops yet to arrest accused) on how the 32-year-old woman had accused Bhandari of subjecting her to mental and sexual harassment for the last one year. Despite the FIR against Bhandari, Sahar police officials are yet to arrest him. The victim alleges that the cops are still just taking statements and delaying the arrest. On Wednesday the woman was called back to work and asked to rejoin her original position in the company. An inquiry has been set up against Bhandari in the matter and the matter is being investigated by MIAL’s internal complaint committee.

The woman officer told mid-day, “I am thankful for mid-day’s support. But Bhandari is still working at the same place. Even after the FIR, no action has been taken against him. My salary too is pending. I want justice and tough action against Bhandari; an example should be set, as he harassed me. I don’t know for what reasons the cops are not arresting him.”
