Bhoir, along with deputy engineer Dattatray Laxaman Mastud had told her that the shop was illegal and was demanding Rs 11 lakh to make it ‘legal’. They had threatened to demolish her shop otherwise.
As she did not want to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB), who planned to set a trap to nab the accused. She settled the amount to Rs 8 lakh with Bhoir. She handed over Rs 4 lakh to the peon, Vilas Pandurang Kadu, who accepted it on behalf of the corporator. The police then arrested them.
During a search of the deputy engineer’s house, the bureau also recovered 742 grams of gold worth Rs 22 lakh, Rs 5.69 lakh in three bank accounts, information about eight flats in Pune, Navi Mumbai, Dombilvi and Kalyan, a Honda City car and a TVS Scooty bike. The trio has been booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
