Brain tumour patient goes missing for over a month

A 55-year-old patient suffering from a brain tumour went missing from Tata Memorial Hospital, Parel over a month ago and has remained untraceable since. Shivdas Prasad, a resident of Andheri (W), had been undergoing treatment at the hospital for several months and was reported missing on November 1.

While the patient’s relatives have registered a missing persons complaint at Bhoiwada police station, their search for Prasad has been fruitless so far.

According to Prasad’s relatives, he had been undergoing treatment in Tata Memorial Hospital for a brain tumour since August 4.

He also had an operation on August 8, after which sources said he had been suffering from memory loss. His doctor had advised him to undergo radiation therapy, for which he was supposed to visit the hospital weekly.

From September 24 onwards, Prasad visited Tata Memorial Hospital on a regular basis for radiation therapy. On November 1, he had gone to the hospital with his son, Vinod Kumar, who entered the hospital’s new building to use the washroom, leaving his father outside. When he returned five minutes later, Prasad was nowhere in sight. Despite searching the hospital thoroughly, Kumar could not locate his father.

Kumar, a power grid employee, said, “I had left my father for five minutes but when I returned, he was not there. I searched for him in every ward of all the hospitals but still could not locate him. After waiting for his return for one whole day, I registered a missing complaint at Bhoiwada.”

Over the last month, Prasad’s family, who hail from Bihar, have searched for him at hospitals across the city. They have even checked mental asylums and asked beggars for leads in an effort to trace him. However, all efforts have been in vain.

“I have not overlooked a single place in the city in the last one month. We have even checked the mortuaries at Sion, KEM and JJ Hospital. I hope he is alright. In whatever condition he is, he should just come back home,” Kumar added.

Prasad’s relatives said that he has a post-operative scar on the right side of his head. He also has a tattoo of the letters ‘S.D SAH’ on his hand. He was wearing a sky blue shirt and black pants when he went missing.

“We have registered a missing persons case, and we are trying our best to trace him,” said Vikram Patil, senior inspector, Bhoiwada police station.u00a0
