A 16-year-old was seriously injured by an arrow in a freak accident at Dahisar yesterday. He was playing cricket at VPM Sports Complex when an arrow shot by an archer practising nearby pierced his head.

The injured boy, Brijesh Sahani (in pic) was immediately taken to Karuna Hospital where neurosurgeons treated him. The arrow has been surgically removed, but doctors said the next 24 hours will be critical for him.
The incident took place around 8.15 am when a group of archers and cricket players were both practicing at VPM (Vishwa Pragati Mandal) sports club ground at Pramila Nagar. The witnesses said that the incident took place in a split-second, leaving them with no time to react. Anil Shinde, one of the witnesses who works as a driver in a building opposite the ground said that Sahani was bowling. “He leapt and was about to release the ball when the arrow pierced his head. He collapsed and was taken by his teammates and the people around to the hospital on a motorbike,” Shinde said.

The youngster who shot the metal arrow is a state-level archer. MHB colony police station have filed a case of negligence against the manager of the sports club, Bipin Bihari. “We have booked a case of negligence for organising a dangerous game like archery, alongside cricket practice,” said investigating officer PI Sudhakar Kamble.
No blame
The victim’s parents were not ready to file a case about the incident. Parasnath Sahani, the father, who is a rickshaw driver, said the incident took place while the children were playing and so he doesn’t want to hold anybody responsible for it. “Both the children are of same age and I can’t hold the other responsible for such a gruesome accident,” said Parasnath.
