After evading the cops for years, Gurgaon gangster Sandeep Gadoli was finally done in by a honeytrap – his 19-year-old girlfriend Divya Pahuja, who allegedly convinced him to get rid of his weapon, leaving him defenceless against the Haryana cops who shot him down.

The Special Investigative Team (SIT) arrested one of those cops yesterday — Gurgaon Police Sub-Inspector Pradyuman Yadav, who pumped three bullets into the gangster during the shootout in an Andheri hotel on February 7. Yadav has been remanded in police custody till July 9 by a holiday court on Wednesday.

Also wanted in the murder case, are four other policemen and four civilians, including Divya, who was allegedly used as a honeytrap to keep track of Gadoli and ensure he came to Mumbai unarmed. She came into contact with Gadoli through his friend, Manish Khurana, who also runs the hotel where she used to work. Sources close to investigation said that the accused cops had instructed Divya, as well as Manish, to ensure that Gadoli was without his weapon at the time of his ‘encounter’ in Mumbai.

Gadoli’s sister Sudesh Kataria confirmed that her brother used to keep a small firearm with him for safety. “Divya and Manish convinced him to drop his weapon in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan — the safe haven where he had been hiding for a month, ever since he had learnt that the Gurgaon cops were after his life. Gadoli dropped his small gun at Bhiwadi and headed to Mumbai along with Manish, Divya, Deepak and two foreign girls,” said Kataria, adding that she got all this information from her brother Kuldeep, who had met Manish.

Manish had reportedly also told SIT that Sandeep arrived in Mumbai with no weapon.

Through her mother, Divya informed the Gurgaon cops that the target was unarmed, said sources. The mother-daughter duo was to get Rs 2 crore for this job; claims the Gadoli family’s advocate, Tanveer Nizam.
