Actor Kiku Sharda gets bail, re-arrested for mimicking Gurmeet Ram Rahim

New Delhi: In a lat night development, actor Kiku Sharda, who became a household name after essaying the role of 'Palak' on popular television show 'Comedy Nights with Kapil', was re-arrested by Haryana Police for mimicking Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh. 


The late arrest happened hours after the stand-up comedian was released in bail from Kaithal. The second time he was detained in Haryana's Fatehabad district.


This was after court in Kaithal district awarded him bail on a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh.

Kiku was detained in Fatehabad as another case had been registered against him there for mimicking Baba Gurmeet Ram Rahim.

According to reports, Kiku was released from custody on Wednesday evening after the self-styled guru Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh tweeted his forgiveness. He had said that he had no complaints if the comedian had apologised for imitating him.

The issue came to light after the December 27, 2015, episode of 'Comedy Nights with Kapil' was aired on television. This episode had Sharda mimic the Dera Sacha Sauda head, something which didn't go down too well with his followers, leading them to file a police case against the actor.

The actor has been booked under Section 295 A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for outraging religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious belief.

According to the complainants, the said episode was telecast on December 27, 2015 in which Kiku had mimicked the religious sect leader and thus their religious sentiments were hurt. The followers of the sect had also protested against the actor who later apologised on Twitter but they went ahead with the criminal proceedings against him.
