The special women court sentenced the accused, the neighbour of the 19-year-old girl, to life imprisonment. The public prosecutor Kalpana Hire, had examined 15 witnesses.
The case dates back to May 31 of last year, when the accused had entered the house and carried out the heinous act on finding the girl alone. The incident was brought to light when the girl fell unwell the next day.
A neighbour told the girl’s mother that the accused had visited their house. After making a few inquiries, it came to light that the accused had raped the girl. The family then registered a complaint at the Kalachowkie Police Station.
