DRI busts wildlife smuggling syndicate

Directorate of Revenue Intelligence recently busted a wildlife smuggling syndicate at Mumbai intl airport.

The DRI sleuths intercepted a person arriving from Bangkok on December 20 based on tip-off that he was smuggling wildlife.

Authorities discovered 9 ball pythons (python regius) & 2 corn snakes (pantherophis guttatus) concealed in packets of biscuits & cakes in his check-in baggage

Officials of the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB), Navi Mumbai, helped the DRI sleuths to identify the seized reptiles, the agency said.

Officials seized reptiles under Customs Act, 1962 and arrested passenger; they also ordered deportation of the reptiles to Bangkok for better survival.
