Diwali shopping boom in Mumbai

Shoppers thronged the Jambli Galli market in Mumbai in preparation for the upcoming Diwali festival.

The bustling market in the western suburb boasted an eclectic range of goodies including imitation jewellery and trendy clothes.

Ahead of Diwali, known as the Festival of Lights, people shop for new apparels; it`s a major festival which is celebrated with great fervour across India.

During Diwali, people host cultural events burst crackers and hog on special sweet and savoury snacks made specially for the festivities.

Families decorate their homes with oil lamps, or diyas, to symbolize the victory of light over darkness and good over evil.
