It’s that time of the year

Here’s a short guide to the best upcoming AAA titles of the holiday season

God of War Ragnarok

This time of the year has always been the most wonderful one for the gaming community. It's the last few months when every publisher tries to entice you into spending your hard-earned cash on video games. To help you make the right choices, here is a list of the best games to expect before the year ends.

God of War Ragnarok

The last God of War had us pumping with adrenalin, and Ragnarök has promised more adventures with Kratos and his son Atreus. The screens and trailer for the game have been spectacular. Atreus has grown a little more, and you can just see Kratos having a tough time dealing with the child while keeping his own rage in check. Honestly, I can't wait to get my hands on this one.
Release Date: November 9

PGA Tour 2K23

The last time Tiger Woods was on any golf video game cover was way back in 2013. After almost a decade, he will grace the cover of PGA Tour 2K23, and that's not the only big name the game will have. It will feature 14 pro players at launch, and you can play with them on the 20 licensed courses. Players will also be able to customise their players' gear and apparel. Will it be as enticing as EA's golf game? That we will have to wait and see.
Release date: October 14

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

We are getting a new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare as well. As usual, there will be a believable global war scenario where you will be part of a special task force with state-of-the-art weaponry and gear. Call of Duty: MWII will feature a robust single-player campaign with a narrative-driven co-op campaign. The game will also connect to COD: Warzone 2 for multiplayer combat and Battle Royale experiences.
Release Date: October 28

High on Life

Do you love the show, Rick and Morty? If you do, then there is a possibility you might like High on Life as well, created by Justin Roiland, the writer and voice of Rick and Morty. It is a first-person shooter with crazy characters, talking weapons, and lots of humour. The trailer seems very weird, which means it should be interesting to play. If Roiland's work is anything to go by, it should also have a cracking story. Fingers crossed.
Release Date: December 13

The Dark Pictures Anthology: The Devil in Me

Each game released under The Dark Pictures Anthology has cracking stories and superb interactivity. They are a great game night multiplayer game with varied endings and things for people to do. This is the fourth game and the Season Finale for the series. The game will have lots of jump scares, puzzles, and co-op moments as you crawl your way to the end. If you like spooky horror movies and game nights, this one should be on your buy list.
Release Date: November 18

Goat Simulator 3

If you are looking for a silly game with no real motive, welcome to yet another Goat Simulator. This one promises to be stupider, bigger, and crasser than the last two. You can customize your goat and, of course, cause untold mayhem where ever you go. Other than your demonic sticky tongue, this time, you can play local or online co-op with four of your goat friends.
Release Date: November 17

Need For Speed Unbound

Need for Speed has had its ups and downs as a franchise, but the fanboy in all of us can't let it die out without a fight. Unbound is again the whole street racing scene with cop chases and car upgrades. Interestingly, the new art looks very similar to the style of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. However, we are going off one trailer here, while that may be the reveal trailer's style and not the actual game. I hope it is the new art style for the game, which would make it very interesting.

Marvel's Midnight Suns

Firaxis Games, the guys that created X-COM, one of my favourite turn-based strategy games, has created this Marvel superhero-based game. You play a superhero in the game, and you team up with a few for each mission. The combat is card-based and turn-based, and your hero can be upgraded with skills and gear, just like in a role-playing game. The roster of playable characters is very enticing, and Firaxis has good storytelling instincts that I am sure will be at play here.
Release Date: December 2

Gotham Knights

DC is getting a new game out for the holidays, and it is an RPG where you can step in to fill the void left by the death of Batman. You can play in solo or co-op mode as Batman's extended family, including Batgirl, Nightwing, Robin, and Red Hood. You have to patrol Gotham city and keep it out of the hands of bad guys. It should be interesting to play in Gotham without Batman.
