Stripes of goodness

Flavours of deliciousness layered in a cup make a new takeaway dessert place in Kala Ghoda ideal for post-meal indulgence

Banoffee Cream

We stumbled on a food delivery app after a friend recommended it and its desserts looked (and sounded) delicious on the app. Next, we found ourselves looking at their Instagram page and drooled as we scrolled. So we decided to give them a call and place our order for a pick up.

In the same building as American Dry Fruits at Kala Ghoda, operating out of the kitchen of The Pink Rosette bakery is Strati Desserts, the maker of layered cup desserts. The first one we ordered was the berry frutti-e-panna (Rs 350) - it had jelly, graham crackers, fresh berries, vanilla custard, berry compote, vanilla sponge and vanilla chantilly; all of it topped with a slice of strawberry and two blueberries. We were bowled over by the magic of the layers, an interplay of sweet and tangy and it took 50 seconds for this writer and her friend to dig into the goodness and finish the dessert. The Cioccolato Grand (Rs 325) had dark chocolate brownie cubes, layered with dark chocolate mousse, milk chocolate brownie cubes, milk chocolate mousse, homemade chocolate sable crumble, chocolate shards, chocolate chantilly.

Fruit e Panna

Why not call it death by chocolate instead? This is a true chocolate lover's delight - every layer, a sensory play of textures on the palate and not really the kind that you would want to finish at one go. Post this, we decided to have a mix of both - berries and cocoa - the berry cioccolato fondente (Rs 325) with chocolate custard, fruit compote, fresh fruit, dark chocolate brownie squares, dark chocolate mousse, chocolate chantilly and it was too much of a sensory overload. Unless you are a fan of chocolate with strawberry, this one can get overpoweringly sweet and tangy at the same time. Ask us and we'd say go for individual cups of berry frutti-e-panna and cioccolato rand, and you would enjoy it better.

Caramello Cafe

By now, we were on a sugar high and decided to give our mouths a break during our long journey home. Surprisingly, the dessert cups travelled well but it could be because it was post-dinner. With the temperatures we areexperiencing lately, daytime heat can easily kill the cream in the dessert. Once back home, we had a round of savouries and were ready to take on the next set of desserts. The crema banoffee (Rs 315) with its layers of biscuit crumble, vanilla blondie, dulce de leche, bananas, flaked almonds, and caramel cream is an ideal dessert for those who are fond of the original banoffee flavours of dulce de leche, and bananas. The caramello caffe (Rs 300) with its layers of coffee sponge, molten fudge sauce, salted caramel sauce, coffee mousse, mocha crumble, caramel cream was ideal. Not too sweet, just the right hint of salt and the perfect coffee kick. We are glad we kept this one for the end.
