Charles Bryant and Josh Clark

Curated by Arpika Bhosale, Jane Borges, Gautam Mengle and Alisha Vaswani

Charles Wayne ‘Chuck' Bryant and Josh Clark are the OG nerdy podcasters. Their long-running show, Stuff You Should Know, was an accidental, but happy discovery, while we were on Spotify recently, looking for interesting things to listen to. Lo and behold, we found ourselves browsing through a treasure chest of random thoughts and ideas that Josh and Chuck deep dive into. From the dark and brutal history of the Colosseum in Rome, the tragic death of American cave explorer Floyd Collins, the legend of the vampire, how we came to get a surname, and even why inflammation occurs in the body, the duo discuss a wide range of topics. Their witty conversational style, light banter, and ability to animate boring trivia are what make this show a must-listen. Try to catch it when you are out on a long walk, or struggling to get a good night's sleep. By the end of it, you will be a lot wiser.

Love you(r) back

Fighting a recurring shoulder spasm, we recently turned to @Endbackpain on Instagram, which offers tips and tricks for pain relief. One of the more helpful Reels suggested wearing a scarf around the shoulder through the night. We tried it for three consecutive days. By the fourth day, the mobility in our shoulders had improved, though the pain hadn't disappeared entirely. The page also has tips to treat chronic sciatica, and ways to identify points that can cause pain in the body.

Quiet rage

Set in contemporary Delhi, Northeast Indian novelist Anjum Hasan's new novel History's Angel (Bloomsbury, R489) follows the story of a middle-aged Muslim history teacher, fired from his job after losing his temper with a student, who insults him for being Muslim. While navigating personal crises, his city, too, gets progressively dark and violent. Hasan skilfully explores religious tensions and the lives of Muslims in India. Full of references to Indian history, this book is for people looking to read about the past to deepen their understanding of the troubles plaguing the present.

All stacked up

If you are someone who reads as many newspapers as there are stars in the sky, you will relate with this: A home strewn with papers. It can be quite a mess. A newspaper metal holder (R499) that we picked up online has proved to be a blessing in disguise, especially for our maid, who has long stopped grumbling about having to clear them from odd places. The holder collapses when there is no newspaper inside; when it's time to give them off for recycling, just unclip it.

Tubby for Tabby

We love our cats... all four of them. Yes, you heard that right, four! With a multi-cat household, we need enough litter boxes and have tried everything available in the market - from fancy to those with high-edges to keep the litter in. None lived up to our expectations. That's when we tried to go with something out-of-the-box: Ikea's Lattsam baby tub (R699). They are huge with anti-skid rubber stoppers below. This particularly helps, when cats jump in and out of the litter box, sometimes toppling it over. A quick tip: During the monsoon, sprinkle some baking soda at the bottom, before filling the tub with cat litter (clay and other minerals). This absorbs the moisture in the air, and helps the litter clump quickly.
