Mirchandani had been practising Latin and Ballroom dancing since the age of 15, and as a part of her gymnastics training, had also studied rope mallakhamb, a traditional Indian form of gymnastics that is performed on a jute rope. She started training in aerial silk just over four years ago. She says that aerial silk is a combination of strength, flexibility, fluidity and grace, and demands a great deal of discipline and focus. Upper body and core strength are essential, and both these will develop greatly through aerial practice. It also helps improve stamina.
