Cargo pants: Straight-fit cargo pants can get out of the jungle with feminine cropped tops in neutral colour, or tanks. Classic heels or pointy, dressy boots, will take it further away from predictability.

Oversized blazers/pant-suit: It's a bit of an echo of wearing your dad/mom's blazer to the school farewell, but there is an elfish charm to over-sized pieces. And pant-suits are the jumpsuits of this decade. To get it to relax, punctuate it with a pair of sneakers. Parekh prefers pairing her baggy suit with a cropped top or bustier for more definition.

Midi skirt: A midi is sleek and elegant, and faux leather is going to dominate what passes for winter in our corner of the mangroves. You could wear it with a top in the same colour, but different fabric or pick co-ordinates in the same pattern.

Monochrome: The trend of wearing one colour head to toe, preferably a sophisticated neutral such as beige, camel, taupe, ecru or cream, will grow in strength over the new few months. "It's a perfect balance of laid back and polished," says Parekh. "It's enough to match the top with the bottoms, but it can be notched up by putting various shades of the same colour together in the jewellery, shoes or any other accessory."

Ankle boots: We may not be able to go thigh or calf-high with boots in Mumbai, but we can flirt with those that come up to the ankle. Take those boots, preferably with a statement heel (in a curious shape or embellishment) and introduce it to a skirt or dress.
