Feeling low? Dressed-up elephants all over Mumbai are ready to lift your spirits

If you, like us, think elephants are the cutest mammals on earth, you are going to love the Elephant Parade. After the parade is inaugurated on Sunday at the Gateway of India, 101 elephant sculptures which have been turned into unique painted masterpieces, will be displayed in herds at prominent Mumbai locations for three weeks, to be photographed, hugged or kissed. Each elephant will then be put on sale to raise funds for their endangered wild cousins.

Created as part of the 2017 UK India Year of Culture, Elephant Parade India is organised by Elephant Family in association with Good Earth. The initiative has engaged leading Indian artists, fashion designers, design institutes, tribal painters and celebrities to work on the elephants. Designer Anita Dongre, who is one of the artists involved, told us, "The Asian elephant has always symbolised harmony to me, the ability to be protector and warrior, gentle and wild. I'm convinced that if elephants die, forests will die as well. They hold the tranquility and balance of a forest together. Without these majestic creatures, there will be no peacemaker between predators and preys."

When: All day long, February 28 to March 18
Where: Worli Seaface, Palladium, Mantralaya, Oberoi Mall
