Sheela Sharma was only four years-old when she lost her arms in an accident. From a very tender age, her heart was set on art and she did not let the mishap bog her down. "Once, when I was in school, I saw a person painting with his leg. That's when I realised that fine arts as a subject is not limited to the fully abled. While in school, I would make greeting cards, using my foot. In my eighth standard, received the second prize at an inter-school drawing competition - I had sketched a portrait of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Since then, there has been no looking back," says Sharma, who did her BFA from Lucknow University.

Sharma's work is subtle and comprises of simple portrayals of instances from her surroundings such as a mother playing with her kid, young girls going to school, animals and deities. She says, "Innocence of children, the elegance of a woman, bonds shared by family are some of the many subjects that inspire me." For her upcoming art show, she has kept the theme open. But broadly, it centres around childhood and innocence. "Childhood reminds me of playing with balloons, paper boats, kites, and every child's favourite elephant-faced god, Ganesha. All these paintings, in some way or the other, depict the innocence of a child. There are 33 paintings that will be on display at the gallery.
