It is a myth that non-vegetarian food is important for strength. Many athletes across different sports have turned vegetarian and vegan and have stated that it has made them better sportspersons. We take a look at the list of sports stars who are vegan

Virat Kohli: The Indian cricket captain decided to turn vegan in 2018 and has not looked back ever since. He has sworn to keep it that way and also heaps praise on the 2018 sports documentary 'The Game Changers'. Kohli has stated that he has never felt better in his life after he turned vegetarian

Peter Siddle: The Australian cricketer is vegetarian but his diet is more fruit-based. Siddle reportedly eats up to 20 bananas in a day and it keeps him in good health.

Serena Williams: The 23-time Grand Slam winner decided to turn vegan in 2014 after he sister Venus Williams did so. Serena Williams has maintained that her performance was never affected after she switched to a new diet. 

Tom Brady: The 42-year-old National Football League quarterback is one of the most famous sports stars who follow a vegan diet. The New England Patriots player swears by his diet regime to keep his body in the best condition.

Hannah Teter: The professional snowboarder decided to turn vegetarian after she watched the film Earthlings. Hannah has maintained that after changing her diet, she has been able to perform on a whole new level

Lewis Hamilton: The six-time F1 world champion opted for a diet change to vegan in 2017 and is one of the most famous vegan sports stars today. He feels that the amount of cows being slaughtered in order for meat is horrible and he does not support it.

Novak Djokovic: The multiple Grand Slam winner began a vegan diet in 2010 and it was visible in his career transformation ever since as Djokovic became one of tennis' household names and also held the number 1 ranking for a long time. In 2016, Djokovic also opened up a vegan restaurant.

Tia Blanco: The professional surfer who also won a gold medal at women's World Surfing Championship strictly observes a vegan diet and combines it with regular workouts which keep her fit and active.

Daniel Bryan: The former WWE champion turned vegan for a while now and at one point of his career, he also had a vegan-customised WWE title belt.

Venus Williams: The multiple Grand Slam winner turned vegan in 2011 after she was diagnosed with Sjogren's syndrome and had to give up meat and diary products.

Hector Bellerin: The 24-year-old Arsenal footballer had announced in a video in 2017 about his decision to turn vegan. He said in his video, 'I realised that there were athletes out there that were not just vegetarian, but actually vegan. So I started researching and found out that a vegan diet wasn't just suitable for me, it was actually better for my body. So I switched.'

Neil Robertson: The snooker star decided to turn to a vegan diet in 2014 but still considers himself not an entire vegan. He had consulted fellow snooker professional Peter Ebdon regarding the move to a vegan diet

Jermaine Defoe: THe former EPL star who played for Tottenham Hotspur and current-Rangers footballer switched to a vegan diet in 2017 in order to increase his career-span and is still going strong.

Nate Diaz: The 34-year-old Mixed Martial Artist has been on a vegan diet since he was age 18. Nate Diaz, who fights in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) proves that meat and dairy are not required even if you have to succeed in a sport such as MMA.

David Haye: The former British boxer decided to turn vegan in 2014 and also went on to launch his very own vegan protein.

Scott Jurek: The ultramarathoner first turned vegetarian in 1997 during his college years and it was in 1999 that Jurek began a vegan diet. 20 years on and Jurek is fit as as ever at age 46.
