Switzerland name Roger Federer in Olympics squad

Roger Federer was named by Switzerland's Olympic Committee in their team for the upcoming Tokyo Games on Monday.

The 20-time Grand Slam champion had said he would wait until the end of Wimbledon, with the men's final scheduled for this Sunday, to confirm his participation at Tokyo, with the men's singles starting on July 24.

The only major title Federer has yet to win is the Olympic singles but he claimed the doubles in 13 years ago, partnering Stan Wawrinka at Beijing 2008. He also bagged a silver medal at London 2012 when he was beaten by Team GB's Andy Murray. Federer skipped the 2016 Rio Olympics due to a knee injury.

"My feeling is I would like to go to the Olympics," Federer, 39, had said recently. The tennis competition at the Tokyo Olympics, which includes men's and women's singles, men's and women's doubles and the mixed doubles events, begins on July 24 and finishes on August 1.
