The Narendra Lagad-trained Son Of A Gun, helped by a vigorous ride by jockey Mustakim Alam, won the Bangalore Turf Club Trophy, the feature event of Sunday's Mahalaxmi card. Mustakim was forced to play second fiddle to far superior winners in the two earlier races, but he managed to go one better in the feature race, winning in a start-to-finish fashion, courageously staving off a belligerent Amazonia who tried her best in the hands of jockey Neeraj Rawal to overtake in the last 300m. Mustakim ended the day with a double as he later drove the Imtiaz Sait ward, Big Red, to an easy victory in the Amazing Mauritius Cup for class IV horses.
In the opening race of the card, the Rajcoomar Gujadhur Memorial Trophy, jockey Neeraj Rawal astride Eaton Square ran away from his hapless rivals, finishing a street ahead of Leo The Lion (Mustakim Alam up), who, in turn, beat the other three runners out of sight. Eaton Square was trained by Malesh Narredu, who also bagged the Sportbet.io Sprinters Trophy with New Dimension (Haridas Gore up), and thus, emerged as the sole trainer to win more than once on the Sunday card.

Another short-priced favourite to oblige the followers of money was the Nosher Cama-trained Scaramanga. In the hands of jockey CS Jodha, Scaramanga bided time near the wrong end of the six-horse field of the Sports bet.io Longstride Classic, before moving up fluently to whizz past Golden Glow (Mustakim Alam up) even as the latter was flattering himself, shaping like a winner for a brief moment.
Trainer SK Sunderji sent out a stylish winner in Break Point, by Dreamfield out of Sweet Caroline, whom jockey NS Parmar gave a copy book ride to claim the N M Irani Trophy, reserved for maiden 3y old horses. Apprentice jockey N Bhosale won the Ahmed I Rahimtoola Trophy with the Dallas Todywalla-trained Portofino Bay, who advertised her return to winning form after more than a year. Making a sensational move along the inner rails, Bhosale and Portofino Bay drew away for a fluent victory, leaving the field standing.
