Action from the World Bridge Championship in Morocco where the Indian players are seen in blue shirts
It turned out to be a case of so near, yet so far for Team India (Open category) on the last day of the qualifying round robin at the 48th World Bridge Championship in Marrakech, Morocco on Sunday.
On Saturday, the Indian squad looked on course to finish in the Top 8. However, a surprising loss to lowly-placed Egypt was a setback and that put the pressure back on India.
India won in the penultimate match against Australia, but only just. They lost to leaders Norway who were on a roll. India wilted under pressure before going down.
This opened doors for China and USA1 to qualify. Finally, India emerged 10th among 24 teams.
