American skiing champion Mikaela Shiffrin, who has achieved a record 85 World Cup wins, surpassing Lindsey Vonn (82), recalled how a lunch with Swiss tennis great Roger Federer gave her a positive approach when she was going through a difficult period in her life.

According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, she said: "I feel like that lunch came at a time when I really needed it. Federer advised me to enjoy the most incredible moments because what I do is incredible. I was like, Oh my God, Roger Federer is telling me about my career.

"It was a little difficult to sum it all up and understand everything he was saying, because I was kind of blown away by all the time we spent together over lunch. Roger was telling me that to preserve the longevity of your career, you need to take moments to look around you, appreciate where you are, breathe it in."
