Eight-year-old Iron Age swept his four rivals off their feet to win the Dr SC Jain Sprinters' Championship (Gr 2), the feature event of Sunday's Mahalaxmi races. Ridden by P Trevor, the game galloper trained by Imtiaz Sait made every post along the six-furlong sprint a winning one, stopping the clock at 1m:9.767s.
Iron Age jumped out smartly from the starting gates to take charge of the proceedings from the word go, followed by Hunting Goddess (PS Chouhan up), even as Corfe Castle (A Sandesh up) found it hard to keep up with the pace, as did the other two rivals--Market King and Fast Rain. Iron Age was so well within himself when bringing the field into public view that none of his rivals could pose any threat to him at any stage.
Trainer Pesi Shroff scored a grand treble on the Sunday card. The champion trainer began the day with Swift (Kirthish Bhagat up) who outclassed rivals in the Ahmed I Rahimtoola Trophy. Shroff later sent out two more winners, both ridden by jockey PS Chouhan, who won the Jayaramdas Patel Gold Trophy astride Inamorata, and the N M Irani Trophy with the first-timer Reminiscence.
