Dangerous, trained by Adhirajsingh, won the Teena Katrak Memorial RWITC Ltd Trophy, the main attraction of the nine-race Sunday card which brought the curtain down on the prime monsoon season in the country. Neeraj Rawal rode the winner.

Pesi Shroff, the former ace jockey-turned-trainer, who already holds a record for Championship titles at Mumbai(16), claimed his 6th Pune championship crown by saddling 17 winners through the season. Trainer Narendra Lagad finished second with 14 wins.

Classic prospect

The most impressive winner of the final day's afternoon also hailed from the champion trainer's yard. Three-year-old filly Jendayi (Gleneagles - Monasada), despite racing after more than seven months after her debut victory at Mumbai, simply toyed with Hall Of Fame & Waikiki to bag the General Rajendrasinhji Million. Her manner of victory suggested that she will be a force to reckon with in all the upcoming Mumbai Classics if she maintains fitness and form.

Season's champions

The Five Star Shipping Company, represented by K N Dhunjibhoy, was adjudged as the leading owner (Rs 56 lakh); while Ms Ameeta Mehta's Usha stud farm won the champion breeder's crown. Jockey Mustakim Alam was a clear winner in the two categories reserved for apprentice jockeys (leading apprentice jockey and apprentice jockey with "allowance"), however, the fight for the champion jockey crown went down to the wire, with Neeraj Rawal tying up with Mustakim at 12 points each. Finally, the trophy was awarded to Mustakim on the strength of better numbers in the runner up and third finish slots.

Two other young apprentice jockeys--N Bhosale (8 wins) & Haridas Gore (6 wins)--also excelled during the season despite limited opportunities. Both these rookie riders scored a brace each on the final day, as did trainer Hormuz Antia.
