Glasgow: Two Indians, including medal prospect Vikas Gowda, made it to the final rounds while Tintu Luka qualified for the semifinals of the athletics competitions at the Commonwealth Games here yesterday.

Discus thrower Gowda just made a single attempt, clearing the distance of 64.32m to top the qualification round at the Hampden Park here. He did not take any further throw as he was way ahead of second-placed Apostolos Parellis (61.91m) from Cyprus and Jamaica's Chad Wright (61.08m).
Australia's Julian Wruck, who has a personal best of 68.16m and season's best of 65.01m was fourth. The US-based Indian has a season's best of 65.62m. He also holds the national record of 66.28m and is first Indian to have won a CWG medal, a silver at the 2010 Delhi edition.
Sahana Kumari qualified for the final of the women's high jump after finishing seventh in the qualifying round with an effort of 1.81m. Tintu Luka made it to the women's 800m semifinals after finishing fourth in heat number 3 with a timing of 2:02.74.
Luka, who has a season's best of 2:00.56, was sixth best overall after four heats. In the women's long jump, however, India's Mayookha Johy failed to qualify for the final round after finishing eighth in the qualification Group A with a disappointing effort of 6.11m.
She jumped 6.11m in her first attempt but could not better the mark in her two subsequent efforts (6m and 5.89m).
