Carlos Alcaraz celebrates a point during the thrilling five-set final against Novak Djokovic
Carlos Alcaraz defeated seven-time champion Novak Djokovic to claim his first Wimbledon title on Sunday, shattering the Serb's dream of a record-equalling 24th Grand Slam crown. Roger Federer has eight Wimbledon singles titles.

World number one Alcaraz recovered from dropping the first set and saving a set point in the second to come through 1-6, 7-6 (8/6), 6-1, 3-6, 6-4. It was a second major for the 20-year-old Spaniard following his US Open title last year as he became Wimbledon's third youngest men's champion at 20.

Alcaraz and Djokovic have played twice before this thriller. Alcaraz won the first encounter in Madrid in 2022, but not before it went down to the wire. The second time the two met, Djokovic emerged victorious at Roland Garros last month. However, Alcaraz had cramped at one-set all.

These two interesting results ensured the build-up to this Wimbledon summit clash was all the more spicier. Spanish sensation Alcaraz pocketed a cool £2.35 million as prize money for his special achievement on the hallowed surface of Wimbledon. That's approximately a whopping Rs 22 crore!
