Yao Ming grateful to basketball

China basketball superstar Yao Ming has officially confirmed his retirement from the game. "At the end of the last year I suffered a third stress fracture in my left foot so I had to leave the basketball court.

For half a year I have been waiting. I had been thinking (about my future). "So today I am announcing a personal decision, I'm ending my career as a basketball player and formally retiring.

I'm very grateful to basketball, it has brought happiness to many people, including myself," said the 30-year-old.
