Mount Carmel rink hockey champions UK United
A stellar show from the Walmiki brothers, Yuvraj and Devinder, saw Uncle's Kitchen United beat Union Bank of India 6-3 to clinch the men's open title at the Mount Carmel Open floodlit rink hockey tournament recently. Yuvraj notched up a fine hat-trick in the final while younger brother Devinder scored a brace. Rajat Sharma completing the tally for the winners. For UBI, Vinay Walmiki scored a brace while Suraj Shahi contributed with one goal. Devinder was impressive throughout the tournament, scoring 15 goals. In the women's final, Bhagyashree Agarwal scored four goals to inspire Freunds SC to a convincing 8-5 win over Bombay Republicans. Ruqqaiya Shaikh scored a brace, while Meenakshi Agarwal and Reshma Mahadik contributed with a goal each for Freunds. In the veterans final, defending champ Rebels SC beat Hockey Dadar 3-2 for the win. Meghraj Murthy, Solomon Alexander and Madan Vishwanath were on target for Rebels while Hockey Dadar got both goals through Gavin Vandrine.
The Dhanbad Football Academy, a professional academy registered with AIFF, will conduct trials to select boys in the U-13 and U-15 categories. The trials conducted by head coach Shekhar Bangera will be held on Saturday, June 15 and Sunday, June 16 from 3.30pm to 6.30pm at the Karnatak Sporting Association Ground, Cross Maidan, Churchgate. The selected boys will represent Dhanbad FA in the AIFF Junior I-League and MDFA organised tournaments among others. Players born on and after 2004 (01-01-2004) are eligible for U-15 trials and those born on and after 2006 (01-01-2006) are eligible for U-13. Players interested in attending the trials must bring along age proof documents and three passport size photographs.

Second seed Varun Majumdar stunned top seed Gaurav Rege 11-21, 21-18, 21-17 to win the men's singles final of the Mumbai Suburban District badminton championships at Khar Gymkhana recently. Among the girls, it was double delight for Pooja Devlekar, who beat Nakshatra Hanchate 16-21, 21-16, 21-10 in the final. Pooja then paired up with Siddharth Nageshkar to beat Kairav Thakore-Purav Suryamurthy 21-19, 21-14 to clinch the mixed doubles title. Meanwhile, the U-19 titles were won by Atharva Joshi and Mekhla Ambekar. Top seed Joshi won the boys title beating Sarthak Rokade 21-16, 21-15, while Ambekar got the better of Anamika Singh 21-17, 8-21, 21-18.
