Errani, who completed a career doubles Grand Slam with Roberta Vinci at Wimbledon, is trying to improve on her best singles showing in a major, a runner-up finish at the 2012 French Open.
The 27-year-old Italian, ranked 14th in the world, ended an emotional run for 32-year-old Lucic-Baroni, a teen sensation in the 1990s who is now ranked number 121 in the world.
Lucic-Baroni had shocked world number two Simona Halep to reach the last 16. Errani, who ousted two-time champion Venus Williams in the third round, will face a former world number one in her next match - either Maria Sharapova or Caroline Wozniacki.
