International Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge says he is "disappointed" with the revelations of Tiger Woods' serial infidelity.

"It's a disappointment... we call for our athletes to be a role model for youngsters and that is evidently not the case with Woods," Rogge told El Pais on Saturday.

"We will see how this evolves, but it's not a worry for the IOC," the Olympic chief added in reference to golf's inclusion at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro.

According to Rogge "an athlete of this level must realise that his personal life is indelibly linked to his professional life".

Woods' popularity and standing as a sporting icon has taken a major battering since reports of his extra-marital affairs first surfaced last month.

The billionaire golfer, whose Swedish wife Elin has reportedly launched divorce proceedings, has announced a temporary break from the sport to deal with his personal issues.
