A combined effort by Abdullah Latif and Aidan Gresseux enabled St Stanislaus (Bandra) defeat their opponents St Francis D' Assisi 'A' (Borivli) 2-0 in the MSSA under-16 div-I match at Azad Maidan on Saturday.
Last year's under-16 runners-up Stanislaus and third place winners D' Assisi expectedly put up a good fight. Both teams launched an attack right from the outset, but a fantastic display by Abdullah and Aidan sealed the match for Stanislaus.
Ecstatic after the win, Abdullah said: "We are happy with the way we played. We would like to score goals consistently in the tournament.
Aidan, meanwhile, attributed his success to having closely watched the football World Cup in South Africa.

"I followed the World Cup very keenly. And after watching the stars in action, I have learnt a lot about ball co-ordination and possession."
Coach of St Stanislaus, Roy Fernandes, said: "The players were very nervous initially. Our team played only 40 per cent of their game today.
It was understandable because we were playing our first game of the tournament. But, I am sure the boys will play better as we progress in the tournament."
