ASK a Mumbai player how he prides the cap he dons and you will know where he is coming from. I am no different.

Being a selector is half as difficult as being selected for a state that exudes history, pedigree and culture. Being a selector for Mumbai is almost going down history and like all cricket mavericks, I respect cricketing history.

Any selectorial issue is debatable. If it works, it seems right; if it doesn't, it is wrong. The decision is always circumspect and however calculative it might be in terms of percentages, luck on the day plays its own role.

Being in the hot seat is all about wanting to make a difference you believe is good for the game and not about crooning Sinatra's genius 'I did it my way'.

Systems don't change too often, but the men who matter can change a system. I tried in my own little way to bridge the barrier between players and the system. Dropping players is never a pleasure, picking them is done with a prayer that they succeed.

The issue is not about asking others, it's about asking yourself whether you are able to make a difference? There will be issues of transparency and systems in cricket as in any walk of life.

If one finds answers, one belongs there. If one can't, one has to question oneself. I didn't find the answers!
